The Two Main Licenses: Learner’s and Permanent

There are two famous categories of driving license in our country, India. Types are given below:

  • Learner’s License (LL): Temporary license that permits to practice driving under oversight. The validity of this kind of license is 6 months and if necessary it can be extended for the next six months.
  • Permanent Driving License (DL): This type is a full license that allows one to drive independently. To apply for a permanent driving license, you must have a learner’s license and pass a driving test or demo. 

Who is Eligible for a Driving License in India?

Before completing your application confirm that you have fulfilled these requirements:

  • Age Requirement: Your age must be 16 years old if you want to ride a motorcycle without gears. For every geared motorcycle or car the required age is minimum 18 years old. To be qualified for a commercial license, your age must be 20 years. 
  • Medical Fitness: The candidate should be physically fit and mentally healthy to meet the criteria laid down under the Motor Vehicles Act.
  • Knowledge of Traffic Rules: You should have some knowledge of traffic rules.
